One of the reasons Atlantis fell was because of Man's abuse of animals through experimentation of an unbelievable and horrific nature, for sadistic enjoyment and the furtherance of power. Our attitude to the animal kingdom is one of our great tests today.
In the last hour I have learned two facts, both new to me. One is that thousands of animals are imported into the UK for medical research, all bred overseas for that purpose, and the other is that animal activists have been threatening the transportation companies with terrorist-like repercussions if they continue so to do. As the availability of these animals is declining as a result, so doctors and scientists are demanding that the government intervenes to enable their work on animals to continue.
Atlanteans and other civilisations developed sophisticated methods of healing and preventative medicine using light, sound, energies and the fruits of nature, so successful that some men and women lived for hundreds of years in perfect health. The abuse of animals by a dark sector there was not for the furtherance of medicine, and it is possible, despite or because of modern knowledge, to relearn these ancient gifts of natural healing. It is possible, too, for the creation of animal life for human benefit to be taken to such an extreme we find ourselves mirroring the cruelty of those people of Atlantis so long ago. It is our choice.
The activists, in using threats of reprisal and destruction to create great fear in workers who, largely, have only an indirect part to play in the animal trade, show as little compassion as the scientists who use the creatures, sometimes less when animal welfare is used as an excuse for creating anarchy. Ethically the attitude on both sides raises serious questions about values and what it means to be human, although each one claims to have right on their side.
I hate animal cruelty and I believe in the power of the natural world for healing and self-healing, but I respect the right to choose. The scientists and the activists must learn, themselves, about the true meaning of kindness and global co-operation; it is wisdom that cannot be imposed but must come from within. Attitudes will change and one day animal experimentation on this industrial scale will cease, as will cruelty to children and the abuse of the countryside by pesticides. Until then we can each do what we can to honour our natural world as best we can, and that will soothe the souls of all which suffer now.
The latest medical discoveries are extraordinary, and as they continue to develop - as they will - ethical considerations and issues of human choice with profound spiritual implications will confront us. Our changing world of knowledge may precipitate our hardest challenges since those days of Atlantis.
We now have the ability to read the complete genetic code in any body, meaning that you and I may know of every medical predisposition which is likely to affect us in our lifetime, even down to how and when we will die. The aim, of course, is to discover potential weakness and deal with them early, and while the thought of having a fit and healthy body for a very long lifetime sounds attractive at first, for me it is superseded by my belief that the body and its strengths and frailties are a reflection of the health of the soul, and that its genetic make up has been put together perfectly and deliberately in order to assist my human learnings and experience.
So, I would not wish to have medical intervention to such an extent that the plans of soul and Spirit were unravelled, and nor would I wish to know all that lay before me, physically, preferring to deal with ill-health in the moment, according to spiritual intent. But, that is me... and that would be my choice, not necessarily yours.
Towards the end of the great Atlantean era, scientists took research and experimentation to dangerous degrees that used to be unimaginable to our world, but which are not extraordinary now as we see human and animal cloning, the ability to read minds with machines, the development of ever more deadly toxins which could destroy Earth, and total manipulation of our mental and physical development.
Knowledge can be a dangerous thing, as they say, and one of our biggest challenges is knowing when to say no to more, and what. Keeping life simple is good.
